December 2024

Update from the Director

Dear Henry County Schools Faculty, Staff, and Community,

As we step into the new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the joy and excitement that filled our schools throughout December. The past month was filled with memorable family events, incredible student performances, and a shared anticipation for the holiday season. From festive concerts and winter celebrations to classroom activities and acts of kindness, December truly showcased the heart and spirit of our school community.

It was also a time to honor and recognize our outstanding educators. We proudly celebrated all of our Teacher of the Year candidates from each school, recognizing their hard work and dedication to student success.

A special congratulations once again goes to our District Teacher of the Year Candidates who are now advancing to compete at the Regional Level, with hopes of moving on to the State Teacher of the Year Competition:
🎉 Shanna Pierpoint (K-4)
🎉 Kayla Price (5-8)
🎉 Renea Lassiter (9-12)

These incredible educators continue to make a profound impact, and we are so proud of their accomplishments. We wish them the best as they move forward in this next phase of competition!

As we begin this new year, I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you—our faculty, staff, students, and families—for making Henry County Schools such a special place. Your dedication, enthusiasm, and support were evident throughout the holiday season, and I am excited for all that we will accomplish together in the months ahead.

Wishing you all a wonderful 2025!

Sincerely,

Leah Watkins, Director of Schools

Our Kindergarten to 2nd-grade students are learning how to express their thoughts and ideas on paper. Their enthusiasm for writing and responding to informational and literature texts is truly inspiring! Second graders were able to put their writing to a text and research skills to work.
